In this chapter, I have mentioned some of the many superstitions that are believed and followed by many in India. Most of these superstitions have scientific explanation that are well understood, and many have not found any reasoning or not very well understood. Whatever the case, superstitions are widely accepted and still religiously followed across India, no matter what the Religion, Caste, Creed or Sex is of the person..."ITS FOLLOWED".
So the question is -
"Are these so called 'Superstitions' just superstitions that a literate can decide to ignore them, or do they have a good enough reasoning to be followed, no matter if one is literate or not?"
The answer lies in what the 'Superstition' is, and how much valid is it in today's world. Hence, lets take a dig at them and try to find the answers. Note that, there could be variations or similar sounding Superstitions and mostly the reasoning might be the same. Where there are variations, I have put them together for better understanding. Also note that the reasoning I have mentioned could be already provided by science and if not then it is logically what I think it could be. This is not a complete list and will add more as timespeaks.
SUPERSTITION 1
“Do not go near trees/plants at night as there are ghosts out there” or
“Do not go near trees/plants at night as there are snakes out there”
Reason -
One of the most common superstition, and many of them now know that the science behind it. Its simple, but still let me put it here -
Scientifically most of the plants are known to emit Oxygen during day and Carbon dioxide in the night. Hence its ok to rest under the tree during the day but not at night, as Carbon dioxide is harmful to our health. Moreover there could be creepy insects that might prove fatal to one. Hence its always best to be away from plants at night.
Should you follow -
I would say YES. Though, we now know that it is not a superstition, its should be followed by all, literate or otherwise.
